Head of Vishnu or a deified king, early 9th C CE3D Model
Head of Vishnu or a deified king, early 9th C CE, now in the collection of the Minneapolis Institute of Art.
This is an improved model from a previous upload here.
From the object’s description on artsmia.org:
“This powerfully carved head reflects the concept of the God-King (Deva-Raja), a system that originated in India but was taken to new heights during the Khmer Empire (802–1437 CE). In fact, [Vishnu] often took on the likeness of individual Khmer rulers. In a fragment such as this, which is missing bodily attributes such as multiple arms, it is difficult to distinguish between divine human and god.”
About this 3D model: We’ve made a specularity map from the diffuse to make the Sketchfab view more like the original’s color and specularity. Check out the Model Inspector to see the customizations.
