More model informationThe 200 ft wooden steamer Herman Hettler was launched in 1890 as the Walter Vail. It had a long career until in 1926 a severe November storm forced the Hettler to seek refuge behind Grand Island near Munising where it ran aground on a rocky reef and sank in shallow water. The ship broke up and is now scattered in shallow water in two main sites. There are two models, one of each site, created from a total of 2,424 30-megapixel image shot by Andrew Goodman on two DPV dives in the 2023 season. Of the two separate areas to the Herman Hettler shipwreck site, this is the second area.
