More model informationThis is the Anglian high cross in the churchyard of All Saints, Bakewell. It’s 8th or 9th century, carved sandstone. The photogrammetric model here gives a fair idea of the difficulty in interpreting the carvings; there are various explanations – I’ll add some further comments below. At the top of the surviving part there is a crucifixion – Jesus’s bare legs are dangling down. There is vine-scroll on the sides and back, with a suggestion that the horse and animal on the back have pagan significance.
