Historic brick from a feature found during the historic archaeological survey of the Moseley Homestead, a National Register of Historic Places listed site in Brandon, Florida. The brick was part of what appeared to be a garden planter feature that may have been associated with a no longer existing structural area on the homestead lands. The brick is from the B. Mifflin Hood Brick Company, Plant B in Atlanta, Georgia, which moved to Atlanta from Philadelphia in 1904. The company became known for its “non-convict” bricks, avoiding the practice of leasing imprisoned convicts as labor which was typical of other brick manufacturers. This brick is similar to ones found at the main house area of the Moseley Homestead, which date to repairs and additions made to the 1886 structure in c. 1913.
