Relief of Saint Leopold on the wall of house No. 51 in Gars am Kamp.
Leopold III, Margrave of Austria, came from the noble family of the Babenberger. He had the nicknames “the pious” and “the mildness” due to numerous monastery foundations and generous gifts in Vienna and Lower Austria. Since 1663 he has been patron saint of Austria and replaced St. Koloman. In Lower Austria he is the sole national patron, in Vienna he shares the position with St. Clement Maria Hofbauer and in Upper Austria with St. Florian.
