Martin of Tours (316/317-397) was the founder of Western monasticism and the third bishop of Tours. He is one of the most famous saints of the Catholic Church and was born not far from the border of today’s Burgenland in Szombathely/Steinamanger. Saint Martin is the church patron of the Eisenstadt Cathedral, the patron of the Diocese of Eisenstadt and the provincial patron of Burgenland.
