Australia’s first submarine HMAS AE1 was lost with no survivors on 14 September 1941 off the coast of Papua New Guinea during the first World War.
The wreck was finally located in December 2017 near Rabaul in Papua New Guinea.
In April 2018 a detailed ROV survey of the wreck was conducted from the vessel RV Petrel.
The digital 3D model you see here was generated using photogrammetric 3D reconstruction methods from the more than 8000 images of the wreck captured during the 2018 survey.
