HMS Collossus was a battleship designed and built for the Royal navy. She was laid down in June 1879 and launched in march 1882, and was comissioned in 1886. Its hull was made of open hearth steel and the armour was a steel faced compound, making it one of the first all steel battleships in the world, however it was a technilogical dead end in terms of gun layout. The guns fitted were mk3 12 inch breach loading rifles, which were then upgraded to to the mk4 varient, atleast 5 6- inch guns and a small battery of 6 pounder guns. The ships top speed was rated at 14 knots but on trials could exceed 16 knots. Her career was very quiet, only taking part in fleet excersizes and cerimonies before being placed in reserve in November 1901 and sold for scrap in 1908.
