Home icebox3D Model
The home icebox (also referred to as a refrigerated storage cabinet) is the predecessor of the refrigerators we use now. It worked without the use of electricity, using ice as the refrigerant. In the icebox presented here, a simple drainage system installed in the device chilled the interior of the refrigerator. A block of ice was placed in the upper part, in a permanently installed, spacious container, especially insulated with zinc plated sheet steel. That maintained the constant movement of air, which became heavier and sank as it cooled, and then rose as it became warmer at the bottom of the device. Water from the melting ice was discharged through two grooves that ran in the form of the corrugated sheet metal on the rear wall, which was suspended below the ice chamber. Water pooled at the bottom of the fridge and was then discharged using a tap in the left side wall of the device.
