Horned Trilobite (NHMW-Geo 1994/0150/0000)3D Model
3D scan of a fossilized horned trilobite from the Devonian found in Morocco (partially restored). The first trilobites evolved 521 million years ago, and went extinct in the mass extinction at the end of the Permian (252 million years ago). This specimen is just one of many different trilobites in the collection of the NHM Vienna. Other trilobites developed tridents instead of horns, but the specific function of the headdresses is still unclear.
This fossil and some others of its kind can be found in Hall 7 in showcase Number 34 at the NHM Vienna.
