Howa Type 89, a 5.56mm Japanese assault rifle manufactured based on the AR-18 platform. It’s in use exclusively by the Japan Self-Defense Force (JSDF) since it’s adoption in 1989. Feeds from a 20 round or a 30 round magazine with side witness holes. These rifles come standard with a clamp on bipod, which can be easily removed. A Type 89 specific, multi-purpose bayonet can be mounted at the barrel. Picatinny Rail adapters and specially made optic brackets were also introduced around the early 2000s to offer more ability to modernise the rifle.
