The humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) is the only species of the genus Megaptera and it lives in all the oceans and seas of the world. Adults range from 14–17 meters in total length (female are larger than males) and weigh up to 40 metric tons. The humpback is characterized by long pectoral fins and tubercles on its head. Males produce a complex song typically lasting 4 to 33 minutes.
