Hunt Museum - Statuette of a baboon- MG005 3D Model
A limestone baboon figure in a squatting position with a hole in top of the head. The hole indicates that it originally had a headdress. Limestone statues were often brightly painted. These figures were used to represent the hours of the night that the dead had to pass through. The figure may also represent the God Thoth, an egyptian moon deity. Thoth was said to personify divine speech and was seen as the god of writing, mathematics, astronomy and healing. There is evidence of mummification of baboons in Middle Egypt. Ancient Egyptian, possibly Ramesside Period. More details
