Hunterheugh 1 (pt 5) May 20073D Model
Section of the 11m x 9m carved outcrop referenced ‘Hunterheugh 1’ on the Beckensall Archive (BA) and ERA.
In 2004, the outcrop was excavated by a team led by Clive Waddington, Aron Mazel and Ben Johnson. The team discovered at least two phases of carving with the earliest thought to belong to the Neolithic with later additions in the Bronze Age (including a cairn). The two phases were quite distinct with the carver(s) of the earlier phase utilising the outcrops morphology when placing the motifs.
This model incorporates motifs from the two phases and shows both the natural and quarried exposures. Panels 3 & 4 are from the earlier phase with 7 & 8 added after quarrying.
