Hunterheugh 1(full) May 20073D Model
Extensive area (11m x 9m) of carved outcrop on the Hunterheugh Crags area of Beanley Moor, Northumberland.
In 2004, the outcrop was excavated by a team led by Clive Waddington, Aron Mazel and Ben Johnson. The team discovered at least two phases of carving with the earliest thought to belong to the Neolithic with later additions in the Bronze Age (including a cairn) after areas had been quarried. The two phases were quite distinct with the carver(s) of the earlier phase utilising the outcrops morphology when placing the motifs. Referenced ‘Hunterheugh 1’ on the Beckensall Archive (BA) and ERA.
