Kirkjulágar are ruins located west of Húshólmi, Grindavík. They appear as two small depressions in a lava field, formed in the 12th century. The southern depression contains ruins believed to have been a church surrounded by a curved wall. Some believe the church was in use untill 1563. Located in the northern depression are ruins that have attracted much interest in the area. The longhouse that stood there when the lava flowed was not destroyed; rather it flowed around the house, leaving the outline of the building intact.
