Goddess Hygieia with snake and bowl as part of the fountain of the same name in front of the Josephinum in Vienna’s 9th district. The fountain dates from 1787 and was designed by Johann Martin Fischer.

Hygieia is used here as the personification of health. She comes from Greek mythology and was initially an independent Athenian healing deity. Hygieia is usually depicted with a snake drinking from a bowl or a cornucopia full of fruit.
