A cluster of four prehistoric carved rocks in the Green Crag Slack area of Rombalds Moor, West Yorkshire, England
This cluster sits adjacent to the main track from leading south from the Haystack up to Lanshaw Delves. An abundance of other prehistoric features are in the immediate vicinity including cairns, other carved rocks, enclosures and stretches of denuded walling. The most of elaborate of the carved rocks is known as the “Idol Stone” and its rather wonderful linear design understandably detracts from the others which just display simple cups. Given the lack of wear on the Idol Stone, its size and the presence of other stones, it has been suggested by some that this may well be a disturbed cairn. Another definite cairn is 10 metres to the NW. The carvings are referenced IAG321-324 in the 2003 publication “Prehistoric Rock Art of the West Riding” and Idol Stone, Green Crag Slack 5-7 on England’s Rock Art Database.
