IJsselkogge Kampen: Kitchen 3D Model
In autumn 2015, during the excavation of the IJsselkogge (a 15th century Cog shipwreck located in the river IJssel near Kampen, the Netherlands) researchers uncovered the remains of the ship’s kitchen or ‘galley’, located at deck-level towards the vessel’s rear, on starboard side.
The remains were recorded with a GoPro camera and subsequently reconstructed in 3D using the photogrammetry software Agisoft PhotoScan. On this project the main challenge was limited visibility: with maximum underwater visibility ranging between 0.5 and 1 meters divers could only ever see a small portion of the kitchen area underwater. The overall structure only emerged once 5000+ close-up video frames were combined into this overview model!
