This is a unique 3D model that displays the Infrared (IR) values of each pixel in a mosaic that was generated in a Structure from Motion (SfM) program. This data was gathered via a UAS equipped with an IR sensor. This mosaic is showing heat signatures with white colors, while cooler objects are shown in black. Notice some car hoods are very white as the engine was still emitting heat!
As the resolution of the IR camera is nowhere near as high as standard cameras, the resulting 3D model does not retain all vertical structures. Taking many photos at high overlap while flying at a lower altitude allows the heat signatures to be represented at an accurately greater than a single photo at higher altitude could accomplish. This IR mosaic could be draped over an accurate 3D model that was generated via a Red, Green, & Blue (RGB) sensor of higher resolution to reflect a more accurate representation of vertical structures.
