This metallic piece in the shape of a skull over two femurs was probably used as a brooch or pin by the Hussars of Death. In Chile, the Hussars of Death were a military branch formed by Manuel Rodríguez and others patriots that fought for Chilean independence. It was founded after the battle of Cancha Rayada, on March 23rd, 1818 during the period known as Patria Nueva of the Independence of Chile (1817-1823). Their uniforms were similar to those of the hussars of Galicia but in black. The piece was worn on the collar of the uniform.
