More model information

Instructional Chess demonstrates – on the body of each piece – how pieces are allowed to move on the board. Seen from above, squares represent potential “landing” places for each piece, beyond which they may not move, while arrows represent the possibility of continuous movement across the board.

Each piece was custom designed in virtual reality (Oculus Medium) and 3D printed for proof-of-concept testing. I hope to get this instructional chess set into the hands of local educators, chess clubs, etc., so younger users can engage with a game shown to improve cognitive processes (particularly those associated with mathematics and spatial understanding).

The pieces have been designed to be printed without support material.
