The 212 ft Iron Chief was built in 1881as a schooner barge and converted to a propeller in 1882 when builders added a steeple compound engine and propulsion system. It often towed other barges with similar names Iron State, Iron Cliff, and Iron City. In 1904 in heavy seas it broke a stern pipe and foundered off Pte Aux Barques in Lake Huron. The crew was rescued by the steamer Andrew Carnegie. The model was created from 2,215 30 megapixel images shot by Andrew Goodman in the 2023 season.
