Iron Projectile, S. Cucufate, Portugal3D Model
Iron projectile from roman villa of S. Cucufate, Alentejo, Portugal. High Roman Empire (1st century AD to 3rd century AD). Projectile tip with prismatic cone-shaped head, ending with sharp tip.. Although being part of military equipment, it was also used in civilian activities, such as hunting or equestrian sport. This specimen is close to the type of pilum catapultuarium, a throwing weapon used by Roman artillery, the arrowhead (pilum) being thrown by a catapult. Its total length is 7,4 cm. Currently it is exposed in the permanent exhibition of the museum of S. Cucufate (Vila de Frades, Vidigueira). Catalog No. CUC. 80 VIII 7 lado sul (1).
