More model informationThe Ishtar Gate was a magnificent entrance to the ancient city of Babylon, located in present-day Iraq. Built by King Nebuchadnezzar II around 569 BC, it was the eighth gate leading into the inner city. The gate was part of a grand processional way that extended into the city. The Ishtar Gate was a double-gate structure, with a smaller front gate and a larger, more impressive rear gate. The walls were covered in glazed bricks, predominantly blue, and decorated with animals and deities made from colored bricks. The gate stood 15 meters tall, with foundations extending 14 meters underground.
