Iwase Farm: Japan’s first state-run farm that implemented Western European style dairy farming. It began when the first land development office of the Imperial Household Agency was established under the instructions of Emperor Meiji in 1880 and the surrounding bare field was cultivated as the land of the imperial family. In 1907, 13 Holstein cows and other agricultural equipment were imported from the Netherlands. A bell was sent as a symbol of friendship between Japan and the Netherlands. Currently, it has been privatized and is loved by many as an agritourism destination.
