Above the inscription there is an I H S Christogram with cross rising from the crossbar of the H. The latin cross is flanked on either side by an hour-glass shaped chalice or an hour-glass. Above the cross there is a floral motif, like a rose head. Beneath the Christogram there is foliage sprouting out from a plant which may represent the Tree of Life. Beneath the inscription there is an angel blowing a trumpet carrying a scales for the weighing of souls on the Day of Judgement. In Christian tradition it was the Archangel Gabriel who announced the Day of Resurrection, it was the Archangel Michael who held the scales of judgement & weighed the souls of the resurrected, escorting the souls of the faithful to heaven.
