More model informationFamily tradition tells us that Jane Austen wrote at this small tripod table, placed by a window in the Dining Room of her home in Chawton.
The table is made of walnut and has 12 sides, measuring just 47cm across. We do not know why Jane chose such a tiny table. Perhaps its small, unassuming nature suited her purpose of writing quietly and discreetly. We do know that she was a neat, tidy worker and wouldn’t have needed much space.
This object is part of the collection of Jane Austen’s House, Chawton. Find out more.
