Japanese Shrine3D Model
I recently watched a horror movie on Netflix based in Japan and centering around a Japanese shrine. This prompted me to dig up an old project:
I created the components of this scene a few years ago but could never quite work out how to combine them into a scene. Tools such as ZBrush and Sketchfab helped to expedite the process this time around and here is the result.
I really wanted this scene to be low-light but struggled to pull it off with the 3 lights accesable through sketchfab. Therefore I decided to bake the lights in Maya and use them as emissive maps. The aligned well with the emissive lighting created by the lanterns.
Thanks to keeping the layout relativley repetative and uniform I was able to use an emissive lightmap for replecated meshes. The arches, steps, rocks and shrine all share lightmaps with their duplicates. In the case of the shrine it is split into 4 quaters. This saves modelling time, light rendering time and texturing time.
