This stoneware jar (MAHS-IDN-COL-028-O-0002) is similar in shape to Martaban jars that historically circulated around maritime Southeast Asia. The outer body is covered by a pale brown glaze but the interior and base is unglazed. The exterior is also decorated with incised lines and bands of rouletted vertical lines.
This jar is currently held in the village of Ganedalam, Maluku Utara, Indonesia. The people of Ganedalam have used this type of vessel for water storage, and there are several examples of similar vessels still to be found there.
