Jean-Eugène Robert-Houdin, born in Blois on December 7, 1805 and died in Saint-Gervais-la-Forêt on June 13, 18711, was the most famous French illusionist of the 19th century and founder of the Robert-Houdin Theater inaugurated 11 rue de Valois in Paris in 1845 and transferred 8, boulevard des Italiens in 1854.
Nicknamed the “modern magic father”, Jean-Eugène Robert-Houdin is considered one of the greatest magicians of all times, at the origin of almost all the “great tricks” of today’s magic, he was also a great builder of automata.
