Jim Crow Era Jackson Rooming House3D ModelNoAI
The Jackson Rooming House in downtown Tampa, Florida is the last of an era of homes used as segregated boarding structures for African Americans before the 1965 Civil Rights Act. The house is located close to the thriving Black business district and nightlife areas in Tampa, and was adjacent to the Union Station. Many famous performers like Cab Calloway, Duke Ellington, and Ella Fitzgerald are said to have stayed at the house. Constructed in stages from c. 1901 to 1920, today it is highly imperiled despite listing on the National Register of Historic Places. The house is in ruin, awaiting preservation or demolition. This 3D point cloud is from a terrestrial laser scanner and drone heritage survey project, led by Drs. Lori Collins and Travis Doering with the Center for Digital Heritage and Geospatial Information, with funding from the Vinik Family Foundation. These data are being used for digital preservation efforts and incorporation into digital learning and education relating to Civil Rights era in Tampa.
