Jean-Philippe Smet, known as Johnny Hallyday, born June 15, 1943 in Paris 9th and died December 5, 2017 in Marnes-la-Coquette (Hauts-de-Seine), is a French singer, composer and actor.
During his 57-year career, he established himself as one of the most famous French-speaking singers and one of the most present personalities in the French media landscape.
If he was not the first to sing rock in France, in 1960 he was the first to popularize the genre there. Although he performed many sentimental ballads and country tunes during his career, rock remained his main reference through its different trends, all drawing their origins from the blues: rock ‘n’ roll, rhythm and blues, soul, psychedelic rock, soft rock or even pop rock.
