A portrait from Roman times, whose characteristic feature is the remarkable realism of the sculpted features, unlike Greek sculpture, which tended towards ‘ideal’ beauty. Only the head is preserved and it can be dated to the Julio-Claudian period, the family of emperors whose founder was Augustus. From a stylistic point of view it has been compared to the so-called ‘Corbulone’ portraits, a Roman general whom Nero ordered to kill himself; we are therefore chronologically in the middle of the 1st century.
