Karasawayama Castle, the residence of the Sano clan, seems to have been built in the latter half of the 15th century at the latest. In 1607, Nobuyoshi Sano, the lord at the time, moved his residence to Sano castle, and this castle was abandoned. In this castle, kuruwa (compounds) were built on the east, west, and south ridges around the honmaru (main compound) at the summit, and negoya (residences for the lord and retainers during peacetime) were built at the western foot of the mountain. The most distinctive feature of this castle is the stone wall built in honmaru, which is more than 8m at the highest point. Such stone wall is rarely seen in the Kanto region those days.
