Servia was an important city in Macedonia during the Byzantine era.
The castle had three main parts: the Acropolis, the Upper-City, and the Lower-City. Each part had its own set of walls and defenses.
As for its history, the fortifications at Servia were built either during Justinian’s reign or later, around the time of the Slavic invasions. So, that would be somewhere between 560 and 650. Most of the fortifications that you can still see today are actually from a major reconstruction that happened in the 10th and 11th centuries. The castle also got some repairs later on during the Paleologean period.
