Around the years 1200, Maastricht’s first fortifications emerged. Some of them are still in place today, either entirely or in part, smoothly blending with buildings from later periods and providing pleasant walking areas. The fortifications have been important because Maastricht had been part of many battles for millennia.
This above 3D model is one of the keys of the fortifications of Maastricht. It is a remnant of this distant past which was gifted to the Centre Céramique a few years ago. The pendant and its writing makes it quite unique. The fortifications that can still be found in Maastricht include: Fort St. Pieter (Saint Peter’s Fortress), Waldeck Park Casemates, Helpoort (Hell’s Gate).
This object has been modelled by Ebru Sara Bilen and Janine Glormann.
