An unusual sheela-na-gig carving located at Kilcooley Abbey Co. Tipperary. The carving is largely unknown at present and has not been recorded in the official record of the National Monuments Service, although it is known to locals and has been rendered by local stone mason Philip Quinn. It was first pointed out to us by Lousie Nugent and idented on site by Liam Noonan. The carving is Female, and carved in in a low outline. The body is slim and there are no clear facial features, although it is possible eyes, nose and mouth are there. There is an ear an the left of the large head with sits on a rectangular body with small low carved breasts. The arms extend from the shoulder outwards bend at the elbow and under the legs which are spread apart. The right leg is straight with foot upturned, and left turned inwards with foot pointing the same direction. Clear vulva. A feature from the left elbow is a mystery. Offically recorded as graffiti of an early date
