Kiltinan - Co. Tipperary TS070-1010063D ModelNoAI
This sheela is located on a private estate and access is not public. It may have once been attached to Kiltinan Church, where another Sheela was stolen in the 1990s. This ‘small figure is carved in high relief on slab, which has an arched base indicating it may fit with a door or window. Well sculpted head with grim facial expression, several lines across forehead to side of head, deep-set eyes. No neck; slim torso with small breasts and deeply incised ribs. Oval pudenda; widely splayed legs tapering into stone. One of the few Sheelas with both arms raised, holding an object in each hand. It appears that the round object is a horseshoe with clear nail markings, the other is harder to identify but may have a function to fit with the horse show. These symbols have been used in evil eye symbolism and are interesting in the context of a Sheela
