King Street Horse Trough3D Model
This horse trough was erected in St. Augustine, FL, in 1887 through a donation from William Howard Pell. He was a elite New Yorker who often came down from the North in the winters following the Civil War. He was also a well known member of the Humane Society and his donations were among the early efforts concerned with animal welfare in the oldest city. Additionally, he was a well known member of high society, who was considered affectionately by his many friends and admirers as a genial gentleman. His further care for animals showed through in his role in the early conservationist movement where he worked to bring attention to at-risk animals and wildlife. His work and donations are a part of his legacy that increased the public’s awareness and concern for both domestic and wild animals
