More model informationThe Kirk points were the most common to occur during the early archaic stage at Russell Cave, specifically the serrated form. This large, triangular point is the defining artifact of what archaeologists refer to as the “Early Archaic Kirk horizon.” A “horizon” is a cultural phase and appears over a great geographical space but lasts a short period of time. We can find a “horizon” by looking for similar objects people left behind in different places. The distribution of the Kirk points is particularly impressive. They appear throughout the southeastern and northeastern states. However, the point becomes rare on the west of the Mississippi River. That’s a lot of space to cover!
