More model informationRoman trefoil jug with handle. Bronze; height 15.6 cm; 2nd–3rd century AD.
Roman trifoliate jugs are vessels with a characteristic three-lobed spout, which were mainly used for pouring wine, water, or oil. They were used both in everyday domestic life and in cultic and funerary contexts, for example for libations or as grave goods. Made of ceramic, bronze, or, more rarely, glass, they were widespread throughout the Roman Empire from the 1st to the 3rd century AD. Their discovery provides insights into Roman drinking culture, craftsmanship, and trade relations.
