Licence:18E0300 Excavation of a barrow on Knockloon hill in Co. Clare, Ireland. This model shows the western end of Trench 1, in the center of the barrow, before we carefully wrapped and backfilled. We will be back next year! The model was created from 175 photographs taken with an Olympus Penlite and processed in Agisoft Photoscan on a Dell PC. From the artefacts recovered, we can say that this location was used for burial and other activities over a span of 3000 years (from c.2500BC-c.600AD) and perhaps longer. We will know more once we get radiocarbon dates. At the center of the barrow you can see a standing stone. This appears to have been smashed in antiquity. Next to it is a stone with a strange triangle chipped into its surface. There was evidence of burial, feasting and glass and metal working on the barrow.
