Koagannu Cemetery, Hulhumeedhoo3D ModelNoAI
Large Muslim cemetery (SEN-HMD-1) with elaborately carved coral gravestones and a number of other structures. The site is associated with Yusuf Naib, who is traditionally credited with the Islamization of the islands. He is believed to be buried here in the Medhu Ziyaaraiy, which is the best-preserved mausoleum on the site. There are 1,535 carved coral gravestones surviving on the site – and likely there were once considerably more as the cemetery is littered with hundreds of fragments of others. As the cemetery remains in active use for contemporary burials, it is vulnerable to ongoing disturbance as old stones are sometimes moved and re-used to mark the nearby graves of newly deceased.
