The five climatic regions from the Köppen-Geiger climate classification system.

Global air circulation results in distinctive climate regions around the Earth, each associated with different types of vegetation. The classification of world climates is based on the five vegetation groups which characterise the zones.

These are:

• A - Equatorial zone: known as the tropical rain climate or equatorial wet zone (dark blue).
• B - Arid zone: known as the dry climate (orange and red).
• C - Warm temperate zone (light green and light blue).
• D - Snow zone: known as the continental or sub-arctic climate (olive green).
• E - The polar zone: known as the snow climate (grey).
