More model informationBuilt in 1896 by the Muslim garrisons of the Hong Kong Regiment of the British Army, the Kowloon Masjid and Islamic Centre was intended to serve the Indian Muslim troops stationed at a barracks nearby. The original mosque was demolished in 1980 after the construction of the Mass Transit Railway caused structural damage to the building. It was rebuilt in a new location in 1981 and opened for daily prayers in 1984. It’s the largest Islamic house of worship in Hong Kong and can accommodate 3,500 worshippers
