The plaster cast in the Akademisches Kunstmuseum in Bonn (Inv. 146) shows the so-called Kritios Boy, whose original is located in the Acropolis Museum in Athens (Inv. 698) and is dated around 490/80 BC. In the 19th century the marble statue was found in the so-called Persian debris on the Athenian Acropolis. In 480/79 BC the Persians invaded Athens and destroyed and plundered the city at which the city’s most important sanctuary suffered the worst damage. To remove the damages a large programme of filling and flattening was undertaken and in its course the damaged and destroyed votiv offerings, e.g. Kritios Boy, and the architectural remains were placed in these fillings. Hence the statue must have been executed before the Persian invasion. The well-preserved surface, which may have only been exposed to the weather for a short period, also leads to the mentioned date.
