On the way on the Ctra. de las Cañadas del Teide (TF-21) from La Orotava to the Parque Nacional del Teide you can find this basaltic rock formation in the form of a flower. Stop at the Mirador Piedra de La Rosa to have a closer view of this spectacular rock formation created by a solidified lava river. The direction of the solidification goes from the outer side of the lava flow to it’s center, creating a radial pattern out of basalt rock columns. When the lava is cooling down it is contracting and cracking, that creates the formation’s unique look.
