La Riba de Santiuste Church (Sigüenza, Spain)

Description: Located in the small village of La Riba de Santiuste (Sigüenza, Spain), this beautiful medieval church preserves the structure that was typical of many churches in the area: a single nave. In the 18th century, the decision was made to raise the height of the church, both to give it a more imposing appearance and to prevent possible theft. According to historical documents, the bell tower was originally so low that “a man standing on another man’s shoulders” could climb into it from outside. It is still possible to see the original height of the bell tower openings, which were later blocked up, just below the current bell openings.
