Relieve perteneciente al llamado Lacus Curtius, un pequeño lago que se encontraba en la zona del Foro romano. Copia tardía de un original tal vez del siglo II a. C. Fue hallado en 1553 y se encuentra en los Museos Capitolinos.
Existen varias leyendas sobre su origen. En el relieve se representa la de Mettius Curtius, un soldado sabino que al huir durante el conflicto entre sabinos y romanos quedó atrapado en la zona pantanosa con su caballo, viéndose obligado a abandonarlo para salvar su vida.

Relief belonging to the so called Lacus Curtius a small lake that was in the area of the Roman Forum. Late copy of an original dating from the 2nd C BC. It was found in 1553 and is now located in the Capitoline Museums.
There are several legends about its origin. The one shown on the relief tells us about Mettius Curtius, a sabine soldier who when fleeing during the conflict between sabine and romans became mired in the marshy zone with his horse, being forced to leave it to save his life.
